Iron Man 2

Everyone seems to be addicted to the boob tube, so we can't go without a television/movie specific forum. It is all about visualization around here.

Iron Man 2

Watched the movie yesterday and although I enjoyed it, it's not as good as the first movie. I'm guessing the change in direction and making it an intro into the Avengers movie might have something to do with it. There are some great action sequences and one-liners, but it just didn't engage or excite me like the first movie did. It comes across as Action-By-Numbers. I was really impressed by the Black Widow fight sequences, they were awesome, but I wish they had done more with the character.

When I say change of direction I mean that in the first movie Stark is all about making amends for his past life and making a difference. In the latest movie he's made that difference and the world is practically war free (or at least no one is messing with American) and Tony has turned into an even more arrogant conceited egotistical jerk, which obviously makes him less likable.

I was also disappointed that there wasn't any expansion on the Mandarin rings or the villain himself as they had set that up in the first movie.

Even though a lot of the above is negative it's still a good movie and worth seeing at the cinema as the action sequences just won't be the same at home, no matter how big your TV is.

I saw this last weekend in an IMAX theatre. It was awesome! I have forgotten how good IMAX is. This IMAX = HD and regular theatre = an old analog cable TV with crap reception :-)

I did go to see this and it was fun, but it had this air of cockiness that wasn't so much coming from RDJ, but from the entire flick. Like it was saying "Hey, we made truckloads of money with the last movie, so we're going to do the same with this one." It was also a shallow movie that downplayed a lot of its plot points. It was very cool and not a bad movie at all, but it just didn't interest me that much. I didn't really connect with it in the way I connected with the fanboyisms of Kick Ass.

I could have gone to see it in the IMAX in Calgary, but my sister and I were deaf enough as it was after one concert the night before, and we still had one more concert to go to that evening. So we decided to go the regular showing to save our ears AND the cash. Our grand total for admission was just over 7 bucks for some reason. Saving money=awesome.

The funny thing was that the air of cockiness was what my son liked. It was almost like they wanted to make it into a comedy. I read Iron Man for a number of years and he was never that funny :-)

Pretty sure the Marvel flicks are aimed at a younger audiences/familes/all ages anyways, at this point.

I haven't read many Iron Man books, but from what I recall, Tony Stark is essentially an alcoholic and a womanizer, always with a drink in his hand and bottomless pockets whilst he avoids responsibility. Though I think I saw some semblance of a strategist and an absolute genius on sober-ish occasions. And maybe he also has a self-righteous streak.

Tony Stark in the movie, especially Iron Man 2, is written as more an all-around good guy, though he got a mischievous streak and has an inability to open up to people. But his avoidance of responsibility ends up being for a reason...

I wonder what an r-rated Iron Man movie would look like? I'm betting more drinking, and a naked Black Widow.
