Heatsink compound issue need some advice

New postby Typedink on Thu Jan 14, 2010 12:55 am

Ok so if you've read the Windows 7 thread in General Discussion (though I think it should be in tech), you'd have read my video issues. Well I opened it up not too much dust but some, cleaned it out, and cleaned my heatsink fan. WELL I did not know you were not supposed to clean the gunk on it... and I did... so I got some from radioshack before they closed, says its silicon based and wanted to know what your thoughts are. If I apply this will it be ok til I can go to get some other stuff, I heard Artic Silver is good or something, at Frys Electronics this weekend. I don't want to have my comp down until I can go.

Well I could not wait and put the heatsink, I think I did it ok. Put a dot on then used a card to even it out til it was all over the square. Video is working right now (knock on wood) and I got a little desktop gadget that tells me the temp cause I could not find nothing in Bios that read temp at least I think I was in the BIOS, which if I was even more I saw nothing about anything except a readout of my hard drive model. So not sure it I was in the right place or not.
