Video Converter

I've got a Divx file that I need to convert to AVI or MPEG in order to show in my class. Last time I went hunting for one I got a nasty virus and had to reconfigure my computer to day one. Any suggestions???

I find TMPGEnc to be very useful, and easy to use. (It even converts from WMV, although it needs to be renamed to .asf.)

Alright, I'll check that out. Any other suggestions would be welcomed too just in case

I tried to post yesterday but something wasn't working. Why can you not show a divx video in class? I assume xvid is then out as well? WMV? Windows Media Encoder can convert a video really easy to wmv.

I thought I couldn't make it into a DVD through Nero but it worked so I was okay. There was some other file (i forget what it was) and I couldn't use it and so I downloaded a different program to convert video but i got a virus.

I don't want to bring my laptop to school if I can prevent it so I just need to make sure I have files I can burn into a DVD. I don't the remote for my DVD player and have a universal one instead. The problem is that I can't do scene selections or skip chapters, just fast forward and rewind, stop and play. It's REALLY frustrating!
